At 63, the Faculty of Law Affirms Its Global Commitment and Honours National Figures

The Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (Unissula) Semarang held its 63rd anniversary celebration under the theme "Global Connection, Endless Innovation" on Saturday (23/5/2026).

The event was attended by a number of officials, national figures, alumni and international partners, and was opened by the Rector of Unissula, Prof Dr Gunarto.

Among those present were the Chair of the Sultan Agung Waqf Board Foundation (YBWSA), Prof Dr Bambang Tri Bawono SH MH; the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision, Prof Dr Rudi Margono SH MHum; the President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, Prof Dr Rivan Achmad Purwantono SH MH CWM; the Independent Commissioner of Bank Jateng, Dr Anas Mas'udi MSi; the Deputy Speaker of the Central Java Regional House of Representatives, Dr Ir H Mohammad Saleh MM; the Semarang Metropolitan Police Chief; alumni; and other invited guests.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof Dr Jawade Hafidz SH MH, said the faculty is now seriously strengthening its internationalisation programme by building cooperation with law faculties at universities around the world.

"We have established international cooperation with universities in Asia, Australia, Europe, America and Africa. Praise be to God, we have now built active cooperation across four continents," he said.

He explained that this cooperation includes visiting professor programmes, exchanges of lecturers and law professors, student mobility, and the development of double degree programmes.

Among the countries and universities that have entered into cooperation with the Faculty of Law are Al-Azhar University in Egypt and institutions in Jordan, Turkey, Thailand, Sweden, Australia, Japan through Nagoya, and South Korea.

"Foreign students will study with us for one semester up to a year. Likewise our students will study abroad," he said.

Book Launch

On this anniversary, the Faculty of Law also launched a handbook entitled Islamic Worldview and Law Study, together with a compilation of the scholarly addresses of the faculty's professors.

The handbook on the Islamic Worldview was produced in three languages — Indonesian, English and Arabic — integrating Islamic values with legal scholarship. "This handbook is also part of the identity of the Faculty of Law at Unissula in delivering legal education grounded in Islamic values," he explained.

Until now, Jawade said, law has often been understood as purely normative, without being related to an Islamic perspective. The book was therefore compiled as a guide for lecturers in preparing teaching materials for students.

Besides internal use, the book will also serve as a gift for domestic and foreign campuses visiting the Faculty of Law.

Jawade added that the use of three languages was adapted to the targets of the international cooperation the faculty has built, particularly with English- and Arabic-speaking countries.

Presentation of Awards

On the same occasion, the Faculty of Law presented awards to a number of national figures for their contributions in the fields of law, government and national security. The recipients were:

Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof Dr Ir H Adies Kadir SH MHum, with the award "The Guardian of Constitutional Integrity."

Prof Dr Rivan Achmad Purwantono SH MH CWM, President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, with the award "The Strategic Leader of National Impact."

Prof Dr Rudi Margono SH MHum, Deputy Attorney General for Supervision, with the award "The Pillar of Legal Accountability."

Prof Dr H Yanto SH MH, Head of the Supervisory Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, with the award "The Vanguard Supreme of Justice."

Deputy Chief of the National Police, Commissioner General Prof Dr Dedi Prasetyo SH MSi MM, with the award "The Visionary Leader of National Security."

The Faculty of Law also recognised outstanding scholarship recipients: Mahendra Reza Pratama, representing recipients of the KIP undergraduate scholarship; Amanah Putri Handayani, representing outstanding scholarship recipients in the Notary Master's Programme; Aqil Yusuf Hidayat, representing outstanding scholarship recipients in the Master of Laws; and Mahendra Dewa Wicaksana, an outstanding scholarship recipient in the Doctoral Programme in Law.
