Faculty of Law Launches Police Studies Centre; Deputy Police Chief: It Can Become a Reference for Research and Policy

The Deputy Chief of the National Police, Commissioner General Prof Dr Dedi Prasetyo SH MHum MSi MM, said collaboration between the police and academics is greatly needed.

This is borne out by cooperation between the National Police and a number of universities, including Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (Unissula) in Semarang.

"Collaboration between the National Police and academics is a strategic investment in the quality of future strategic policy, capable of producing innovation and comprehensive governance. With the inauguration of the Police Studies Centre at the Faculty of Law, Unissula, I hope it can grow into a national research reference — on food security, the public interest, social affairs and legal developments — and certainly serve as input for police policy in facing the challenges of the times," the Deputy Chief explained in an online address at the launch of the Police Studies Centre on Saturday (29/11/2025).

Deputy Chief Dedi Prasetyo said that collaboration between academics and the police is also practised in a number of developed countries. This matters greatly, because academics view and resolve problems on the basis of thorough research and study, so that partnership between the police and universities builds public trust.

In his address, the Rector of Unissula, Prof Dr Gunarto SH MH, said the Police Studies Centre at the Faculty of Law reflects Unissula's commitment to standing with the National Police in building the nation and the state.
