Master of Laws Programme Holds Seminar on Journal Publication

To strengthen the skills of students, lecturers and journal editors, the Master of Laws programme at the Faculty of Law, Unissula, held a seminar on journal publication on Friday (1/9/2023), entitled "Strategies for Managing Journals and Improving the Quality of International Publication".

The speakers were Prof Dr Irwansyah SH MHum, professor at the Faculty of Law of Hasanuddin University in Makassar, and Prof Dr Anis Mashdurohatun SH MHum, Head of the Doctoral Programme in Law at the Faculty of Law, Unissula, with Dr Denny Suwondo SH MH as moderator. The seminar was opened by Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Law, Dr Widayati SH MH.

Prof Irwansyah said that in writing a scholarly publication a lecturer, student or researcher must be substantive — detailed, precise and thorough. "A good journal article must focus on a single problem and must follow a proper standard of style and writing. It should contain an introduction, an analysis and a conclusion. The writing style must also be neat and consistent across the title, abstract, keywords and references," he explained.

Prof Anis Mashdurohatun explained why lecturers, researchers and students are encouraged to publish internationally: so that their research findings become known to a wider community, not only a local one.

It also relates to archiving, demonstrates the quality and reputation of a researcher's work, shows the nation's competitiveness in research, and serves as a ticket to international scholarships.

"No less important is building networks on the international stage. Editorial boards come from various countries, or at least have consulting editors and reviewers from various countries. At the same time, such journals circulate internationally with contributors from many countries as well," she explained.

According to Prof Anis Mashdurohatun, writing a scholarly article has its prerequisites: the research must be well designed and carried out, properly and correctly analysed, with data simplified into tables or graphs, thoroughly mastered and discussed, and already yielding conclusions.
