Unissula Law Students Win at Central Java–Yogyakarta Level

Students of the Faculty of Law at Unissula won the Prof Dr Muladi rolling trophy in an inter-university legal debate across Central Java and Yogyakarta, held at Universitas Semarang. The team members were Wiyu Ghaniy Allathif Yudistira, Alya Davina and Nela Mardiana. Sixteen teams from public and private universities across Central Java and Yogyakarta took part.

The team leader, Wiyu Ghaniy Allathif Yudistira, said the Unissula team was praised by the panel of judges because the quality of their debating matched that of Diponegoro University. "During the debate, the Unissula team was praised by the judges because our quality was as good as Undip's," he said on Thursday (30/8/2023).

Despite the praise, the fifth-semester student did not let it go to his head. "We are grateful, because with less than a month of preparation we came third. But we will not be complacent; we must keep striving to improve ourselves, so that the Excellent accreditation held by Unissula and the Faculty of Law is not merely a BAN-PT rating but is also borne out by the quality of its students," he said.

He added that the team would now prepare for other debating competitions. "Our next target is to win the Constitutional Court debate, because that is the most prestigious debating competition for law students. Besides that, points from winning the Constitutional Court debate can add to our accreditation score," he explained.

Nela Mardiana spoke about the role of the faculty's semi-autonomous body for Moot Court Debate and Research (DPR) in preparing for the competition. "Joining DPR at the Faculty of Law brings so many benefits. Once I joined DPR I was pushed to develop, including expressing my opinions often and learning a great deal about debating techniques," she explained.

The many achievements gained by students of the Faculty of Law at UNISSULA are a reflection of how the quality of academic citizens is shaped.
