Unissula Student Is Indonesia's Official Representative at a United Nations Conference

(unissula.ac.id) — The Rector of Unissula sent off one of his finest students, Siti Aisyah Amini, to take part in a United Nations conference in Rome, Italy, running from 31 August to 4 September 2022. The Faculty of Law student is the sole Indonesian delegate at the summit of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Siti Aisyah, a member of the international food organisation IPC, will raise several issues in the fisheries sector. "We will voice the aspirations of Indonesia's young people, especially the children of fishing families, so that one day, when they are asked about their ambitions, they will proudly aspire to be fishers and carry on their parents' calling," she explained.

The student from Madura also hopes that with young people present at this international conference the UN will begin to recognise the potential and develop digital fisheries technology. "Through digital fisheries we can prepare the children of fishing families to see how technology can be brought into the fisheries and marine sector, covering everything from fishing procedures to marketing," she continued.

As an activist in the marine sector she considers that Indonesia's fisheries hold a great deal of potential that can be explored and put to use. That potential could even become a promising field of work for the future of Indonesia's millennial generation. "There must be commitment, technology must come in, and support for the livelihoods of fishers must be put into practice, so that this opportunity can genuinely be used not only by the present generation but also become a career choice for generations to come. I am optimistic," she said.

At the send-off ceremony on the Unissula campus (25/8/2022), the Rector, Prof Dr Gunarto, said he was proud that one of his students had been trusted and invited to represent Indonesia at a UN forum. "This is a matter of pride for the Faculty of Law at Unissula and for all of us in the university community, because Unissula has succeeded in educating and forming accomplished young people to the point where one has become a representative of Indonesian youth at an international UN session in Italy," he said.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Bambang Tri Bawono, who accompanied the send-off, described Siti Aisyah as a tenacious student. "We in the leadership of the Faculty of Law are very proud that our student has received an official invitation to attend a UN conference. Praise be to God, besides Siti there are many other achievements by students of the Faculty of Law at Unissula. So I think it is fitting for prospective new students to choose to study at the Faculty of Law at Unissula, which has proved successful in a range of national and international competitions," he said.

Besides free accommodation and transport from the UN, Siti also received an award of Rp 7,500,000 from the university, presented by the Rector, and Rp 5,000,000 presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Law.

Also present at the send-off were Vice Rector I Dr Andre Sugiyono, Vice Rector II Dedi Rusdi MSi, Vice Rector III Muhammad Qomaruddin MSc PhD, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Law Dr Widayati, Vice Dean II Dr Arpangi, and the Head of the Notary Master's Programme, Dr Jawade Hafidz.
