Raising Lecturer Quality: Faculty of Law Holds Training in Giving Expert Testimony and Drafting Academic Papers

The Faculty of Law at Unissula held training in giving expert testimony and in legal drafting. The programme was attended by all lecturers of the faculty on Monday (28/08/2023).

Vice Dean I said the training was arranged in response to the many requests from the public for expert witnesses in individual cases. "Besides that, the faculty receives a great many requests to prepare academic papers and draft regulations, so we need many people skilled in legal drafting to assist government bodies when they draft district, municipal, provincial or ministerial regulations, and perhaps even statutes," said Dr Widayati SH MH as she opened the training.

She expressed the hope that the training would serve as a crucible for the faculty's lecturers, forging their expertise in giving expert testimony and preparing academic papers.

In her view, as a faculty holding Excellent accreditation from the National Accreditation Board (BAN-PT) and international ASIC accreditation, training is needed to support the ability and expertise of its lecturers. "So this training is necessary, particularly for younger lecturers, so that they can contribute more within society," she said.

As the first speaker she also presented material on preparing academic papers. "Our domain is the drafting stage, where the technical work is preparing the academic paper and the draft regulation," she said.

Dr Jawade Hafidz SH MH shared his experience of giving expert testimony. "In my experience as an expert I do not confine myself to one discipline. Sometimes it is as an expert in criminal cases, sometimes in civil matters, and at times even in administrative law. But when it comes to the mechanism for submitting documents, the first thing is that one must comply with the applicable rules on documents," he said.

The next speaker was Dr R Sugiarto SH MH, while the second session featured Dr Umar Ma'ruf SH SpN MHum and Dr Muhammad Taufiq SH MH.
