Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Inaugurates the Smart Board Mini Court Room at the Faculty of Law

The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, the Honourable Prof Dr Anwar Usman SH MH, inaugurated the Smart Board Mini Court Room at the Faculty of Law, Unissula. The inauguration was marked by the cutting of a ribbon, accompanied by the Rector of Unissula, Prof Gunarto SH MH (17/02). The Smart Board Mini Court Room is a new innovation providing a space that makes it easier for students and the wider public to watch hearings of the Constitutional Court directly.

After the ribbon cutting came the signing of the handover record for the Smart Board Mini Court Room between the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Bambang Tri Bawono SH MH, and Yosi Adrifah SE MSi (Head of the Division for Domestic Cooperation and Inter-Institutional Relations), witnessed by the Honourable Prof Dr Anwar Usman SH MH, Prof Gunarto SH MH and the Chair of the YBWSA Board of Patrons, Drs Azhar Combo.

In his address, Prof Gunarto SH MH said: "Our thanks to the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, the Honourable Prof Dr Anwar Usman SH MH, for providing us with the facility of a Smart Board Mini Court Room. Unissula is the only private university that met the requirements to receive one. With this facility, students can watch Constitutional Court hearings at any time without needing to travel to the Court's imposing building; here in the Smart Board Mini Court Room at the Faculty of Law, whenever the Constitutional Court is in session, we can watch it transparently every day."

"Among all private universities in Indonesia, the Faculty of Law at Unissula is the only one to receive a Smart Board Mini Court Room facility from the Constitutional Court," said Prof Gunarto SH MH.

Acting Secretary General Heru Setiawan SE MSi said in his address: "Unissula has given its support by preparing a courtroom, so that when the Constitutional Court requires remote hearings this Smart Board Mini Court Room is complete. Since the Court has entered into cooperation with Unissula, the Smart Board Mini Court Room will be used in the conduct of legislative and presidential elections and regional elections, and even in cases reviewing legislation."

"With the permission of the Honourable Prof Dr Anwar Usman SH MH, the Constitutional Court grants latitude in using the Smart Board Mini Court Room for the learning process, both academic and non-academic. Unissula is therefore invited to make the most of it, and we at the Constitutional Court hope this facility will be looked after as well as possible," said Acting Secretary General Heru Setiawan SE MSi.

After the inauguration, the Chief Justice delivered the keynote speech at a national seminar on the theme "The Challenge of Achieving Electoral Justice in the 2024 General and Regional Elections". Speakers included Muhammad Rofiuddin SHI MIKom, a member of the Central Java Election Supervisory Body, and Dr Widayati SH MH, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Law, with Dr Jawade Hafidz SH MH as moderator.

Prof Anwar Usman stressed the importance of the value of justice. "The political year and the festival of democracy will be a topic of discussion among academics everywhere. We must remember that without elections there is no democracy, and without democracy there is no sovereignty of the people. Achieving justice in elections is an extraordinary challenge. Unfortunately elections are still often marred by fraud and unfairness, and frequently breach the applicable rules. So fundamentally, safeguarding elections means safeguarding the values of justice," he said.
