With Excellent Accreditation, the Doctoral Programme in Law Strengthens Internationalisation
The Doctoral Programme in Law (PDIH) at Unissula has achieved Excellent accreditation. This was announced by the Rector of Unissula, Prof Dr Gunarto SH MH, on Tuesday (18/7/2023). "Praise be to God, the Doctoral Programme in Law at Unissula has achieved Excellent accreditation. May it make us all the more grateful to God and obedient to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him," he said on Tuesday (18/7/2023).
With this achievement, every study programme at the Faculty of Law now holds Excellent accreditation: the Bachelor of Laws, the Master of Laws, the Notary Master's Programme and the Doctoral Programme in Law.
The Head of the Doctoral Programme in Law, Prof Dr Anis Mashdurohatun SH MHum, welcomed the achievement with joy. "As those entrusted with running it, we have done our utmost to follow the regulations governing a doctoral programme in law and to meet the highest standards of education. This Excellent accreditation certainly carries great meaning, and we receive it with deep gratitude to God," she said.
The achievement has not made them complacent. "Of course we will keep raising quality in line with Unissula's vision and mission. Another priority is reaching the international level," she continued.
This is being pursued by realising the three duties of higher education on an international scale — strengthening research collaboration, journal and proceedings publication, e-book publishing, visiting professorships, increasing the quota of international students and more. "The challenges ahead will only grow. To be sustainable we certainly need a strong communal spirit, hard work and smart work," she said.
She is also grateful for the extension of the Faculty of Law building now being carried out by the Sultan Agung Waqf Board Foundation, which will further improve facilities for students. "Good educational service matters, and so do supporting facilities. The additional new building space will certainly make the learning facilities in the doctoral programme more fitting," she explained.
She further explained that the Doctoral Programme in Law at Unissula was founded in 2012. In 2018 it became the first doctoral law programme at a private university in Indonesia to achieve an A accreditation. "In 2018 the highest accreditation level was A; today the highest is Excellent. So from then until now its quality has been very well maintained," Prof Anis explained.
Another strength is that the programme is entrusted by the government to administer LPDP and BPI scholarships, as well as scholarships from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and from national corporations such as Sinarmas.
The programme also holds international accreditation at the Premier (Excellent) level from the global accreditation body ASIC.
It has wide-ranging international cooperation and attracts international students, with partnerships including Nagoya University, Istanbul University, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Thammasat University and various others. The programme has students from countries such as Malaysia, India, Pakistan and Timor-Leste.
Each year it hosts professors from countries including the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Turkey. They serve as proposal examiners, visiting lecturers, speakers at international conferences and participants in other academic activities.
The programme has its own distinctive courses — the reconstruction of knowledge and the Islamic worldview — and accredited journals of international standing.
Students of the programme have been accepted onto Sandwich programmes: study or research abroad that supports students in completing their dissertations. "Praise be to God, many of our students have been accepted onto Sandwich programmes. This is certainly a source of pride, because our students can carry out dissertation research abroad," Prof Anis concluded.
