Helping to Uphold the Law, Unissula Signs Cooperation with the Constitutional Court

Jatengdaily.com — Law enforcement in this country needs the involvement of every party. "An effort is needed to build law enforcement, including by campuses, which have that duty," explained the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Prof Dr Anwar Usman SH MH, on Monday (12/9/2022).
Prof Dr Anwar Usman said this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Unissula and the Constitutional Court, and as a speaker at a public lecture entitled "Legal Reform: An Effort to Realise the Values of Pancasila".
The memorandum was signed by the Chief Justice, Prof Dr Anwar Usman; the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court, Prof Dr Guntur Hamzah SH MH; and the Rector of Unissula, Prof Dr Gunarto SH MHum, at the Faculty of Law.
According to Anwar Usman, the principal function and role of the Constitutional Court is to safeguard the constitution so that the principle of the constitutionality of law prevails.
Under the constitution the Court has four powers: reviewing statutes against the 1945 Constitution; deciding disputes over the powers of state institutions whose powers are granted by the 1945 Constitution; deciding on the dissolution of political parties; and deciding disputes over election results.
"So the Court's heavy task is to safeguard the constitution, and that cannot be done alone. Hence cooperation with a number of parties, including universities, and Unissula among them," he explained.
The Rector of Unissula said the signing is intended to enable the Faculty of Law to contribute to upholding justice in Indonesia.
"I thank the Chief Justice and the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court for agreeing to this cooperation, so that we can contribute to the Court in realising the enforcement of the constitution. We can also contribute ideas, community service, research and teaching in the field of law," he explained.
According to the Rector, Unissula also hopes that students and lecturers will be able to contribute, including by keeping watch over the constitution in connection with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka policy. Also present were the Chair of the YBWSA Board of Patrons, Drs Azhar Combo, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Bambang Tri Bawono SH MH.
