Uya Kuya Earns a Master of Laws from Unissula, Drawing on Personal Experience in a Thesis on the Spread of Hoaxes

Surya Utama, better known as Uya Kuya, has officially earned a Master of Laws from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (Unissula) Semarang.

Uya Kuya was one of 431 graduates of the Faculty of Law sent off by the Dean, Prof Dr Jawade Hafidz SH MH, at the farewell ceremony for graduates of the Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws, Notary Master's Programme and Doctoral Programme in Law on Friday afternoon (12/12/2025). Uya Kuya then took part in the university's graduation procession, conferred by the Rector of Unissula on Saturday (13/12/2025) in an open senate session.

Speaking to reporters, Uya Kuya expressed his gratitude at finally being declared a graduate of the Master of Laws programme at the Faculty of Law, with a commendable academic result: a grade point average of 3.72.

In preparing his thesis, Uya Kuya explained, his research topic changed along the way. His personal experience of having been the victim of a hoax prompted him to change the title so that it would be more relevant to what he had gone through.

The thesis was finally given the title: "A Legal Analysis of the Spread of Hoaxes on Social Media Based on Pancasila Justice".

Through this research he stressed that spreading hoaxes is not merely a technical matter in the digital world, but is also closely bound up with moral values, ethics and the sense of justice reflected in Pancasila as the foundation of national life.

Uya Kuya hopes the academic degree he has earned will be not only proof of educational attainment but also a means of bringing greater benefit to society.

"My hope is that we are not only clever in theory, but can also apply it for society and give real benefit," said Uya Kuya, who attended accompanied by his wife, Astrid.

With his studies complete, Uya Kuya is determined to keep contributing to improving legal literacy and public awareness of the dangers of spreading hoaxes on social media.
